U.S. Marines land on Guadalcanal in a bloody siege that goes down in the annals of military history. American troops also land in North Africa to battle Hitler's Afrika Korps. Future ships and planes designed to carry these fighting men are manufactured by Rosie the Riveter and her friends in the war plants. The predominantly female population on the home front is treated to a series of movies, songs and musicals that cater to their emotional needs. The wartime experience of many of these young women lays the foundation for a pwerful women's movement.
